10th September 2021 Windsurfing: Shoreham Wind Direction: SW Wind Stength: 17-18kts Surf / Sea State: Choppy Air Temperature: Nice Sea Temperature: Nice Weather: Overcast then Sun Max Speed: Distance Covered: My first session in a while, and the first session for a new board that I bought this week! I'm hoping to replace my old Evo 75 *and* my much-loved Bee 267 with a single board, in a continued effort to downsize. Quite a task and the Dyno85 is my first attempt. To do so it needs to work from a 6.5m down to a 4.6m. Severne tell me it's marginal but doable (on the large size that is), as I'm only 65kgs. Let's see. So this session certainly proved the board to be fantastic with a 5.4m in initially up/down conditions. Super-consistent performance and the Dyno is obviously *completely* different from the Evo75 that I would normally have been on. I could also have been on the Bee267, which would probably have been faster but less comfortable. I'll need to do some comparisons some time. The first impression of the Dyno is that everything is just *so* easy on it. I'm still a hopeless gyber but it suddenly felt like the tutorials that you read! It keeps the speed up amazingly for a small board, and doesn't do that thing where you turn into wind if you don't flip the sail soon enough. Great stuff. It's also incredibly smooth over chop - and feels very stuck to the water (in thruster setup). I'm so far torn as to whether this is a good thing! It's incredibly comfortable but I think it felt less 'fun' that my old boards, and it doesn't immediately encourage jumping off of small ramps. A big worry (for me) with this board is the almost total lack of nose-scoop (esp. compared with the Evo!). It looks like it'd trip on every bit of steep chop, but (so far) it just doesn't... A great first session though! P.S. it's a strange feeling turning up to the beach with a board that's less than 20 years old! |
